Who Are We?

At the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre and Puke Ariki Museum and Libraries, we share a united purpose; to create connections and open doors to learning through purposefully designed experiences.

Our newly created shared learning programme, Mīharo, weaves together the taonga, toi, and stories from the museum, gallery, libraries and across Taranaki for local, national, and international learners.  Our team of passionate educators are on a mission to ignite, enrich and deepen these moments of discovery.

Our lessons link to and expand on school curriculums while inspiring learners to reflect on the world they want to build and participate in. Our special opportunities are just that, unique learning encounters that take you to surprising and exciting places. More ‘Mīharo’! That’s our goal.

With our new ‘pick-a-path’ approach, you choose the direction of your learning adventure—whether you want to dive deeper into a theme or explore a range of ideas and experiences. Explore our website for all the details and discover how we can help turn everyday lessons into unforgettable experiences.

Mīharo is proudly supported by Taranaki Regional Council and the Ministry of Education – EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom). They help us bring transformative learning experiences to life for schools and communities across Aotearoa.

Why include mīharo?

Mīharo offers enriching learning experiences designed to fit your class’s unique needs. You might visit our cultural institutions, strengthen connections to your local marae, or use in-classroom resources that support expansive learning beyond the school day.

Each experience is shaped around your students and what they need most. Culture and inclusivity are at the heart of what we do, with Māori perspectives and values woven throughout to foster respect, understanding, and a deeper connection to place.

Stepping outside the classroom and into our vibrant spaces offers fresh perspectives and real-world learning opportunities. Creativity sits at the centre of our pedagogy—when learning is fun, playful, and experimental, students are more engaged and inspired to explore with curiosity and confidence.

Whether you’re looking for a structured lesson or a more flexible experience, we’re here to support you in crafting the right learning journey for your learners. Choose your path, and let’s create unforgettable learning moments together.
