Summer Studio: Let it Glow
About this Event
This year's Summer Studio Let It Glow, is an interactive artist project by Tāmaki Makaurau-based artist Hanna Shim.
Designed for everyone from toddlers and young children to teenagers and families, the Summer Studio offers an open, hands-on space to experiment with materials and forms.
Let it Glow invites visitors of all ages to explore light, colour and creative expression through the process of lantern-making and decorating.
As the summer unfolds, the studio will gradually transform into a growing lantern landscape, bringing together individual creations to form an evolving, collaborative installation. Visitors are invited to contribute their lanterns to the landscape, becoming part of a shared artwork that grows and changes throughout the summer.
For those who would like to take a little piece of the experience home, there will also be opportunities to make a smaller lantern to keep.
Whether contributing to the larger installation or creating something of their own, everyone is welcome to take part, experiment and discover the possibilities of making with light.
Let It Glow celebrates creativity, participation and the joy of making together, illuminating a shared space one lantern at a time.
Hanna Shim (b. 1990, Seoul, South Korea) is an Auckland-based artist whose practice explores the materiality and aesthetics of “softness” through textiles, sculpture, and installation. Drawing from her personal experiences—particularly her journey as a Korean immigrant in Aotearoa—she creates poetic, tactile works that reflect on themes of identity, marginality, femininity, and the complexities of modern life.
