Why are so many of our native species found nowhere else on Earth, and what does it take to protect them?
Become a biodiversity detective and uncover what makes Aotearoa New Zealand's wildlife so extraordinary. Equipped with real conservation tools ākonga learn to identify local species and gather clues about the health of their ecosystem. Along the way, they'll investigate how introduced predators, habitat loss and urbanisation have changed the natural world, and why some species have thrived while others have struggled.
From predator traps to high tech conservation tools, ākonga will discover the innovative solutions helping to protect our precious species. Through science, storytelling and collaborative problem-solving, they'll consider how kaitaikitanga and collective action can turn small actions into big change. Before leaving the museum, classes plan their own vision for a Predator Free 2050 ‘Backyard Blitz’ and take away practical ways they can help in their own homes, schools and neighbourhoods.
