About this programme

How can art help our environment?

Ākonga visiting Toiaa Taiao: Whiria ko te iwi tuna will be inspired to create art that calls for environmental action. This immersive exhibition centres on a local awa and highlights what becomes possible when a videographer, a composer, and a Māori river guardian work together to protect our waterways.

Students will explore how science, art, and te ao Māori knowledge systems can combine to deepen understandings of awa health and how these insights can be translated into artworks through thought-provoking messages.

In the learning centre, students will experiment with bio-charcoal drawing, a hands-on activity they can extend into other media once they are back at school.
