Makerspace: Creativity Station
About the programme
How does creativity empower learners?
In this session, ākonga will actively experiment, make, and test ideas through hands-on artmaking. They will engage in playful, process-driven activities that build confidence in creative thinking, problem solving, and practical art skills, while exploring ideas of innovation, the creative process, and play.
This special Makerspace draws inspiration from two influential art mentors: Sister Corita Kent, whose Rules for Art Making champion approaches such as 'consider everything an experiment' and 'nothing is a mistake… there’s only make,' and Len Lye, whose lifelong belief in movement, energy, and experimentation celebrates risk-taking, curiosity, and joyful invention. Together, these ideas shape the approach and energy of the session.
Through a mix of guided and open-ended activities, ākonga will develop confidence in how and why they make art. They will build resilience and come to understand that creativity grows through curiosity, play, and active testing, even when they might not know where they're heading!
