What energies can you invent to solve the problems of the future? 

Inspired by Len Lye: Energies and Lye’s famous future-focused words, “My art is for the 21st Century” ākonga will dream, tinker and experiment as they create futuristic mini sculptures. Explore how Lye’s art connects with natural forms and phenomena, using fun body movements to experience balance, vibration, gravity and momentum. 

In the Learning Centre, students will create artworks for future worlds, embedding creative and experimental energies into curious sculptural forms. Experimenting with 3D materials, movement and light, they will encounter design challenges, test possibilities and refine imaginative solutions. Their surprising sculptures will symbolise various forms of energy and propose solutions for the 22nd century.  

 Along the way, students build creative confidence and connect learning across art, science, and technology. To complete the experience, they will ‘exhibit’ their artworks in front of an image of the Len Lye Centre, giving each sculpture a dramatic sense of scale and an opportunity to create fun photos to take back to school.
